Food

A community working group has been formed to look at how our local food needs can be met in the face of the challenges that climate change and increasing oil prices are bringing. For more details contact Marcus via food@transitionchepstow.org.uk or 07944 468052.

The aims of the group are;
- Reduce the carbon footprint of our food supplies
- Improve our local food security
- Support local food providers
- Reduce our reliance on supermarket food
- Encourage residents to grow more edible plants
- Encourage everyone to eat fresher, healthier food
- Improve cooking skills and increase home cooking
- Reduce imported water in foods
- Reduce food waste

Chepstow Gardens - 'Ideas Tour' 15th August 2010

This was our first go at a garden tour.  Organised by Alison, we visited six gardens, all wonderful in their own ways. Amongst many other things, we learnt about grafting tomatoes, bee-friendly planting, keeping chickens, when to pick a tasty fig, wormery technology and successful fruit bush growing.  A big thank you to all the garden owners who shared their gardens with us.

For pictures of the day visit http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/455537799 and click here for a write up of the day.

Visit to The Agroforestry Research Trust, Dartington, 26th June 2010.

We enjoyed an inspiring tour of the forest gardens by Martin Crawford.  Click here for notes of some of the plants we were shown.

More details of the trust and it's site can be found here; http://www.agroforestry.co.uk/.
