Wildlife In Transition

Launched for the Chepstow Festival in summer 2010, the Wildlife in Transition Group has been formed to encourage more local people to care for the environment through helping wildlife. We want local people to enjoy and protect the wildlife on our doorsteps, not just in nature reserves.

Our Aims

• Helping everyone to enjoy the wildlife on our doorsteps
• Helping wildlife by protecting the environment
• Promoting wildlife friendly gardening
• Involving residents in wildlife projects around the town

Wildlife walks

All welcome to join us for our wildlife walks!  We take a leisurely walk around areas of interest in and near the town to learn from each other about the wildlife around us – we aren’t experts but between us we know quite a bit and we’re all learning! Some of our walks will be led by local people with specialist knowledge. Please refer to the Transition Chepstow Events page for details of our walks coming up.

What we’re doing

Our launch event – “Picnic with Wildlife” at the Danes – July 2010

Wildlife friendly gardens – We have plenty of leaflets and information sheets to help gardeners provide much-needed havens for wildlife and we promote wildlife friendly gardening at all our events.
Public open spaces – We’ve started to work in partnership with local schools and we want to do the same with groups, clubs, residents, businesses and the wildlife charities locally to benefit wildlife in public access areas.
A nature trail for Chepstow – We’re working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy and local volunteers to clean up and improve footpaths and public areas for wildlife as well as for residents. Ultimately, we want a nature trail for Chepstow, providing corridors for wildlife around the whole town for everyone to enjoy.

Meetings

Please refer to the Transition Chepstow Events page for our meeting dates. These are held at 4-6 week intervals on Thursday evenings.  All welcome to join us.
