Refreshing the school gardens

Flower bed outside the school gates The Wildlife Group are supporting the Parent Teacher Association at The Dell Primary School with practical help and advice about their gardens and conservation areas. We are particularly keen to fill the neglected flower bed outside the school gates with flowers for pollinating insects!
Garden wildlife enthusiasts are still very welcome to join in our garden wildlife project mentioned in the last newsletter. The idea is to share information and advice, and to help us all enjoy our garden residents and visitors, large and small.

If you are interested in either of these projects, please contact Rose at wildlifeintransition@transitionchepstow.org.

Steph Bradley visits Chepstow

Author and performance storyteller Steph Bradley visited Chepstow in June and was hosted by Transition Chepstow members Rose and Glyn. She wrote some lovely words about her time here on her Facebook group, The Warrior’s Way. In her posts entitled Where the Streets are Paved with Words and On Being Kind you can get a glimpse of Chepstow and its surroundings as she continues her journey to the source of the Wye river.
On Transition Chepstow she wrote:

“It is most reassuring to hear of a transition initiative still going strong after several years, not having collapsed or burnt out. They are looking to branch out further, attract new people, younger people, and of projects to widen out their reach.”

Local Food Challenge returns

Local Food BoardThis September sees the return of the local food challenge where we invite everyone to make the most of the wonderful produce we can buy locally. If you’d like to help us design and roll out this year’s event please contact Kate via food@transitionchepstow.org.uk. In the meantime, you can look back at the local food directory we created to help plan your food challenge dining!

Flurry of activity at Hanley Landshare

Healthy cabbages at Tidenham LandshareA big thank you to those who helped at the Open Farm Sunday event at Hanley Landshare! It was a glorious and productive day and we welcomed some volunteers for their first working visit. Collectively much was achieved, including: onions weeded, compost served to the beans, watering, potatoes earthed up, more courgettes planted, spinach thinned, more French beans planted and general tidying. Our community seedlings need watering, therefore please get in contact if you would like to help out! There are also some crops ready to harvest, and weeding is always useful. Please let us know if you would like to visit and join our group mailing list at food@transitionchepstow.org.uk.

Find our stand at the Chepstow Show on 8th August

Transition Chepstow will be sharing a stand with a few other local organisations at the Chepstow Show, an annual celebration organised by the Chepstow Agricultural Society. The Show is open to all, so if you are visiting or participating in it, do come by our stand and have a chat about our town and our activities.
